Landmark Daybreak Game Company

Daybreak Game Company is shutting down its massively multiplayer online sandbox game, Landmark, next month, the company announced today. The game, which was once in development in tandem with EverQuest Next, will go offline Feb. 21, as will Landmark’s forums and social media channels.

“With heavy hearts, we are writing today to inform you that after much review, we have decided to close Landmark game servers,” Daybreak Game Company said on the game’s official website. The game has been delisted from Steam and is no longer available to purchase from the Landmark website.

Landmark — previously known as EverQuest Next Landmark, when Daybreak’s next-generation MMO was still in development — was officially released in June 2016. The online sandbox offered players “creativity and adventure.”

“Our vision for Landmark is to provide a place where you can create ANYTHING, tell your own stories, and share your creativity with other players,” said Holly Longdale, the game’s executive producer.

Daybreak Game Company focused its efforts on Landmark after canceling EverQuest Next in March 2016.

“In the case of EverQuest Next, we accomplished incredible feats that astonished industry insiders. Unfortunately, as we put together the pieces, we found that it wasn't fun,” said Russell Shanks, Daybreak Game Company president, at the time. “We know you have high standards when it comes to Norrath and we do too. In final review, we had to face the fact that EverQuest Next would not meet the expectations we — and all of you — have for the worlds of Norrath.”

Daybreak’s EverQuest and EverQuest 2 are still active.
